Limbitless transitions to making face shield parts
These last few weeks have been some of our most challenging. Our laboratory, usually buzzing with students assembling 3D-printed bionic arms, has implemented emergency procedures during the COVID-19 pandemic, authorizing no more than two staff members to be in the facility. We continue to work remotely with our hospital partners to support our bionic kids.
I'm excited to share that our machines are still running — now producing face shield parts for hospitals in need of equipment. Limbitless has joined more than 150 other organizations as part of a nationwide coalition created by our partner Stratasys to 3D-print a part of the disposable face shields used by medical personnel.
Supporting our community in this way is a natural fit for us. Limbitless was founded when a pressing need intersected with our unique capabilities, and today we find ourselves in a very similar situation. The adaptability of 3D printing has allowed us to transition our manufacturing literally overnight to meet this new need.
Limbitless, true to our heart, also personalizes each part with a special message as a way to thank and pay tribute to those doing lifesaving work during the pandemic. Four different messages are built into the visors: hope, compassion, love and thank you.
When appropriate, Limbitless will scale back up production for our core mission of expressive bionics. In the interim, we will continue working to meet our community’s urgent needs. Thank you so much for your support, and we hope you continue to stay safe and healthy.
