UCF's Thad Seymour promoted to key new role

By  – Managing Editor, Orlando Business Journal

UCF Downtown Vice Provost Thad Seymour Jr. has been promoted to vice president for partnerships and chief innovation officer at the University of Central Florida.

The new partnerships and innovation division — which will lead how UCF creates partnerships and pursues innovation — will consist of several key groups across the university, said UCF President Dale Whittaker.

That includes:

  • Strategic planning
  • UCF Downtown
  • The Center for Higher Education Innovation
  • Economic development
  • Commercialization and innovation programs
  • Community relations
  • Corporate partnerships
  • The Florida High Tech Corridor

Seymour previously led the creation of UCF's collective impact strategic plan. Before joining UCF, he was an entrepreneur and community leader who worked at several businesses and nonprofits in the state and helped lead the development of Lake Nona's Medical City.

"The University of Central Florida continues to create new models in higher education that take a unique approach to finding solutions that improve our community and economy and, ultimately, elevate our region," said Tim Giuliani, president and CEO of Orlando Economic Partnership. "The partnerships and innovation division demonstrates UCF's commitment to Orlando and particularly to our goal of becoming a city of the future."
