Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater Resigning

State Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced today that he will resign from his Cabinet position after the 2017 Legislative Session concludes. The 2017 Regular Legislative Session commences on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 and will conclude on Friday, May 5, 2017. Atwater was first elected as Florida's Chief Financial Officer on November 2, 2010 and sworn into office in January 2011.

CFO Atwater, a Republican, said he will accept an executive position at Florida Atlantic University. FAU is based in Boca Raton, but has campuses in Dania Beach, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Harbor Branch and Jupiter. Atwater unsuccessfully sought the presidency at FAU three years ago.

In his announcement Atwater stated, "I am honored to join FAU in such a significant capacity. While I would have preferred to embrace this opportunity at a later date, the timing of crucial university initiatives warranted an accelerated transition."

Governor Rick Scott is now tasked with appointing CFO Atwater's replacement.
