Advancing Life Science through Technology Panel Discussion and Special Joint Event Presented by South Florida Technology Alliance and BioFlorida

– The South Florida Technology Alliance (SFTA), an organization promoting the growth, success and awareness of the South Florida technology community, has teamed up with BioFlorida, Florida’s statewide association for the bioscience industry, to bring life science and technology industry professionals together at a joint event in Fort Lauderdale on August 27th, entitled “The Convergence of BioScience and Information Technology: The Future is Here!”
“Technology has played a pivotal role in advancing the life sciences to where they are today,” said Russell Allen, president and CEO of BioFlorida. “The local technology community will become an increasingly important component of the life science industry in South Florida. We are excited to be joining with the South Florida Technology Alliance for this relevant and important event featuring such a noteworthy panel of experts.”
The panel of industry leaders, comprised of Anthony Carvalloza, Director of IT Services for Scripps Research Institute (www.scripps.edu), Mark Emalfarb, CEO of Dyadic (www.dyadic.com), Dr. Robert Schwartz, Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health along with Dr. John Ryan, Research Director at the University of Miami (www.med.miami.edu), and Wolf Shlagman, CEO of ConsultADoctor (www.consultadr.com), will discuss the use of technology in life sciences and the future opportunities for these two industries to work together.
Mel Rothberg, CEO of Advanced Processing & Imaging, Inc. (www.apimg.com) and Co-Chair of the Southeast Chapter of BioFlorida, will provide insight to the state of the Biotech industry in South Florida and moderate the panel discussion. Discussing the current state of the South Florida technology industry will be Chip Casanave, CEO of Data Access Worldwide (www.dataaccess.com) and chairman of the SFTA.
“As the life science industry continues to expand and bring new jobs and growth to South Florida, we are excited to discuss the future opportunities for technology to work with and advance the life sciences,” said Chris Burgio, president of SFTA. “This event will provide a valuable forum for our hundreds of combined members to create new relationships and discuss business opportunities.”
