Life Science Leaders to Convene at 20th Annual BioFlorida Conference

Attendees to Celebrate Two Decades of Advancing Florida's Life Sciences Industry

 

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (October 5, 2017) - Hundreds of Florida's biopharmaceutical, medical technology and health IT leaders will gather October 15-17 at The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort & Golf Club to celebrate the 20th anniversary of BioFlorida's Annual Conference and Florida's robust life sciences industry, which now supports 83,000 direct jobs with an average salary of $78,000 across 5,900 establishments throughout the state (TEConomy/BIO-2016).

 

Key influencers from emerging and established companies, universities, research institutions, economic development agencies, the investment community and the Florida legislature will reflect on 20 years of life science advancements and showcase recent scientific and business achievements as well as high-impact public policy initiatives.

 

Three distinct, interactive programming tracks: BioScience, BioTrends and BioBusiness will offer attendees significant and timely insights while showcasing the momentum and ingenuity of Florida's life sciences community.

 

The 20th BioFlorida Annual Conference will feature:

  • Prominent keynote speakers:
    • Celeste Philip, MD, MPH, Florida Surgeon General and Secretary of Health, Florida Department of Health
    • Pete Antonacci, CEO, Enterprise Florida
    • Jennifer Arnold, MD, M.Sc., FAAP, Medical Director of Simulation Center, John Hopkins All Children's Hospital, and star of TLC's "Little Couple"
  • Dynamic general session panels: "Cybersecurity: What We Should Know" and "Executive Perspective: How to Build your Business in Florida," with prominent executives in the state:
    • Lee H. Evans, Executive Director and Head North America Center, Bristol-Myers Squibb

  • BioBusiness sessions highlighting company successes and providing entrepreneurial and executive level support in funding, business strategy and commercialization including: "Next Generation Technology," "Preparing for Commercialization," "Expert Advice on Funding," and "Spotlight on Innovation." "Spotlight on Innovation" features the following four companies that have met significant milestones over the last year: TapImmune, Inc. (Jacksonville); Altor BioScience (Miramar); Lakewood-Amedex, Inc. (Sarasota); and Intezyne Technologies (Tampa).
  • The BioPitch Competition featuring a record 15 seed and early-stage companies who will compete during closed-door sessions with 14 investors before four finalists are selected to present at the General Session on Tuesday morning. The 15 semi-finalists include: Alertgy (Daytona Beach); Drug Delivery Company, LLC (St. Petersburg); Emergent Healthcare (Ft. Lauderdale); Entopsis (Medley); FloSpine, LLC (Boca Raton); FLUCEL (Alachua); HealO Medical, LLC (Sarasota); Interpares Biomedicine, Inc. (Land O' Lakes); Jupiter Orphan Therapeutics, Inc. (Jupiter); KynderMed, Inc. (Tallahassee); MicroReme, Inc. (Alachua); Ovation Diagnostics, LLC (Boca Raton); RegenX Science, Inc. (West Palm Beach); Rescue Hearing, Inc. (Gainesville); and Venn Therapeutics, LLC (Tampa).
  • Award ceremony recognizing the most successful companies and entrepreneurs in the state. Specific awards include: BioFlorida Leadership Award, Company of the Year Award, Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the BioFlorida Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • CEO Forum, Research Forum and an Incubator Forum will bring together peers from across the state to share best practices and facilitate collaboration.
