UCF Selects HCA as Teaching Hospital Partner
in Lake Nona, Earns Key State Approval

ORLANDO, Fla. -- March 30, 2017,Earlier this year, the University of Central Florida announced the selection of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) as its future partner to establishan academic teaching hospital as part of their Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona.

The new hospital will be located in the Lake Nona Health & Life Sciences Campus. Plans for the teaching hospital include a focus on building a healthier community, training more physicians and powering economic growth through research. The project landed a key approval Thursday from the State University System’s Board of Governors in Tallahassee.

UCF Lake Nona Medical Center will be built adjacent to the UCF College of Medicine. The 100-bed hospital will help the College of Medicine increase residencies and clinically based research, and ultimately help build the Lake Nona Health & Life Sciences Campus into even more of a healthcare destination providing first-class health care.

The academic teaching hospital will be a public-private partnership with UCF Academic Health and the North Florida Division of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), the nation’s largest hospital company.

Michael Joyce, president of HCA’s North Florida Division, said in a news release, “This investment benefits the future physicians we’re privileged to train, as well as the entire Lake Nona community. It also allows us to expand our footprint in the Orlando area, making healthcare more accessible for Central Floridians.”
