GuideWell and Healthbox select 11 firms for local medical tech accelerator

Nearly a dozen early-stage medical technology firms will participate in a new accelerator program hosted by Healthbox, located inside the new $30 million GuideWell Innovation Center in Lake Nona.

Like existing accelerator programs, startup teams will participate in an eight-week program to work with business mentors to gain professional business advice in order to bring their projects to market.

While the GuideWell center is 92,000 square feet in total, 30,000 square feet is dedicated

collaboration space for early-stage health care and life science companies.

Here's a quick look at each participating startup:

  • BloomAPI: A software company based in San Francisco that helps organizations connect to real-time electronic medical record data in less than five minutes.
  • Buoy Health: A Boston-based software firm that created a virtual doctor capable of interviewing and educating patients on their likeliest diagnoses to replace searching symptoms online.
  • CarePredict: A Fort Lauderdale-based company that has created a wearable sensor device that detects declining health. The company is solving the problem of over-reliance on human observation to catch declines in the health of seniors by developing a technology that aims to replace human observation with machine sensing and learning.
  • Dbaza Health: Based in Pittsburgh, this company has developed and clinically validated a patient onboarding platform for managing and reducing the costs of chronic diseases such as diabetes.
  • Doctella: Located in Sunnyvale, Calif., Doctelle helps hospitals improve quality and reduce costs by delivering smart checklists to patients and their families and monitors their real-time participation to gain insights for critical, timely interventions.
  • Hint Health: Based in San Francisco, Hint Health is a billing platform for direct pay health care providers.
  • KynderMed: This St. Petersburg-based firm has developed a proprietary, non-invasive, light-based sleep mask solution that aims to reduce factors that could potentially contribute to pre-term births.
  • PotentiaMetrics: An Austin, Texas, information technology firm that provides proprietary real-world outcome registries and analytic platforms to reveal personalized and predictive insights.
  • Rimidi Diabetes: A health care technology firm based in Atlanta that empowers health care systems to deliver more efficient care to patients with diabetes, improve patient quality of life, and decrease the financial burden of diabetes to the system and patients.
  • Senscio Systems: Based in Boxborough, Mass., this firm offers a complex care management solution that uses artificial intelligence to proactively recognize health complications at home for timely and targeted interventions.
  • SMRxT: An Orlando-based tech firm that uses a real-time medication adherence system with a patient-centric approach, allowing customers to fully understand and manage adherence challenges.

This accelerator joins others such as Starter Studio, which is hosting its fifth demo day for its graduating companies at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on May 19; FireSpring Fund, which will launch its accelerator on May 23; and VentureScaleUp, which is hosted by the Catalyst co-working space in downtown Orlando and is currently looking for candidates for its third class.
