Deadline Approaching to Apply for 6th Annual $50,000 Cade Museum Prize

Annual statewide competition rewards inventors and entrepreneurs

Gainesville, FL, January 13, 2015- The Cade Museum for Creativity + Invention invites applications for the 6th Annual $50,000 Cade Museum Prize competition. The Cade Museum Prize, open to all Florida residents and Florida-based companies, awards $50,000 in cash and in-kind incentives to researchers, entrepreneurs and early-stage companies for taking creative ideas to market.  Judges will apply the following criteria, in order of importance: 1) How truly creative is the idea?  2) How large is the potential impact of the invention? and 3) Could the invention be marketed successfully?

The following are important dates in the award process:

December 1 – January 31              Applicants submit entries online at cademuseum.org Deadline: 1/31/15.

March 10                                           Sweet 16 semi-finalists announced.

April 7                                                 Final 4 teams are announced.

May 16                                               Final 4 teams make pitches to a panel of judges and an enthusiastic audience at the inaugural Inventivity Bash in Gainesville.  The winner is announced on stage.

The Cade Museum Prize, funded by the Community Foundation of North Central Florida, has drawn hundreds of entries from around Florida each year since its inception in 2010, providing an excellent cross-section of the state's researchers, entrepreneurs, and creative-thinkers. The 2014 winning company, BioReNEW, developed a machine called the NEWgenerator, that recovers and generates nutrients, energy, and water from wastes. Past winners have included an innovative way to match students worldwide with high-quality tutors based on learning style; an improved biodegradable plastic that breaks down under natural conditions in less than 10 years; and a revolutionary sound-monitoring technology that uses catheters in common procedures such as labor and delivery and cardiac operations.

This year the Cade Museum Prize competition platform is being sponsored by Skild.
